Re: [HAPS-L] Serum collection

Chet-

OK to piggy back! (But check your email address list for correct HAPS
listserv address, HAPS-L@xxxxxxxxxxx)

In the olden days, blood was stirred with a broom straw to trigger clotting,
and them spun out. One broom ought to yield a lifetime supply!

Why do you want serum? Why not simply add EDTA to whole blood and spin down
the cells? 4 mM should be plenty.

Subject: [HAPS-L] Serum collection

Sorry to piggback this on Alan's email but I often have trouble posting a new
topic. Anyway, can anyone tell me the fastest way to
collect SERUM from a blood sample (mine). I know if you centrifuge a blood
sample in a heparinized tube that you'll get plasma. And
that if you let the blood just sit in an unheparinized tube you'll get serum.
But what if you don't have a lot of time to wait for all
that blood to clot and settle out? Are there faster methods?

Thanks in advance,

Chet Harbut
