Let the blood clot for 1/2 hour to make sure it is all clotted. Then
centrifuge for 10 minutes. Centrifuging only speeds the separation process
and does not determine wheather you get plasma or serum. Clotting or using
an anticoagulant determines that. Clotting factors are removed from plasma
and then you have serum. If you do not let the blood clot thoroughly, the
liquid portion will clot after it is centrifuged. In that case simply use a
wooden stirring stick and remove the clot.

Sorry to piggback this on Alan's email but I often have trouble posting a
new topic. Anyway, can anyone tell me the fastest way to
collect SERUM from a blood sample (mine). I know if you centrifuge a blood
sample in a heparinized tube that you'll get plasma. And
that if you let the blood just sit in an unheparinized tube you'll get
serum. But what if you don't have a lot of time to wait for all
that blood to clot and settle out? Are there faster methods?
