April 14, 2006

SAN MARCOS – Palomar College's multicultural studies department will present free screenings of short films that tell stories of Mexican immigration.

“Ofrenda Desnuda” (“Bare Offering”), which won an international best-director award at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival, was produced by Carlos von Son, a professor at Palomar and California State University San Marcos University. It is about the experiences of a Mexican immigrant in the Tijuana/San Diego border region, and it is rated R. It will be shown at 7 p.m. on April 21 and 22.

At 6:30 p.m. April 28, two other films will be shown. “Aqùi Estamos y No nos Vamos” (“We're Here and We're not Leaving”) is a 25-minute documentary made by North County students. It captures the voices of three people who left their native country to migrate to the United States. The other documentary, “Crosses/ Cruces,” also is about immigration and the border.
