Course Objectives:

1.  To provide an overview of clinical psychology and major psychological problems and disorders across biological, psychological, and sociocultural processes.

2.  To familiarize students with the multiple causes of psychopathology as viewed from a number of different theoretical perspectives.

3.  To ground knowledge of psychopathology in current research.

4.  To discuss intervention and prevention strategies for psychological disorders.

People’s experience with and conceptions of psychopathology and abnormal behavior are quite varied.  They are often wrought with a mixture of confusion, mythology, and even fear.   It is my hope that this course will help to correct any misconceptions, expand your understanding of normal and abnormal behavior, and increase your appreciation for the science of psychology in general.
