The first assignment is to write up to a three page report centered on the paper titled "Soil
Liquefaction in Earthquakes--Its effects on Structures and How to Avoid it" (Author: Delong Zuo). Earthquakes
are a very real worry in San Diego but we can do something that limits the risk
to our lives. Concentrate your paper on describing the phenomena (you may want to research
elsewhere for a better understanding) and what we as individuals and our
governments have done and/or should do to limit the risk to our proporty, our lives, and our society from an earthquake.
Use the knowledge you gain from the book on earthquake zones to better rationalize your argument.
